Winn keeps winning

CONWAY -- Former Blackhawk football player Dayton Winn is picking up honors at college and helping his college team, the Hendrix Warriors, win.

• Winn continued his assault on the record books. With 197 yards rushing, he broke the single-season SAA record for yards in season. He now has 1,532 yards on the year, passing Mike Barthelemy’s of Millsaps record of 1,400 yards set in 2013.

• Winn also had 128 yards receiving and four total touchdowns. He broke the school record for touchdowns in season with 20.

• The junior tailback had 394 all-purpose yards and continues to lead the nation with 267.8 per game.

College junior Dayton Winn was named the Southern Athletic Association Football Special Teams Player of the Week Monday, Nov. 9.

The Hendrix College football team claimed the Southern Athletic Association title with a 19-0 win at Sewanee - The University of the South Saturday, Nov. 14.

During that game, Winn ran the ball 18 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the regular season with 1,640 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

In the previous week's game, Hendrix College football team moved into a tie for first place in the Southern Athletic Association standings after a 54-51 shootout win against Washington University at Crafton-Faulkner Field at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium Saturday, Nov. 7.

The tone of the game was set when Warrior junior quarterback Seth Peters connected with junior Dayton Winn on a screen pass and the Pea Ridge, Ark., native ran the reception 70 yards for a score just 20 seconds into the contest.

During the Oct. 31 game against Rhodes, Winn ran back a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown to give Hendrix a 31-27 lead with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter en route to a 45-27 victory over Rhodes. Winn, from Pea Ridge, Ark., had two kick returns for 94 yards total and a pair of punt returns for 19 yards. He also had 21 carries for 122 yards.

Winn is the national leader in all-purpose yards by averaging 252.0 per contest.

Winn won SAA Offensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

The son of Dickie Winn and Kristi Walker, Winn graduated from Pea Ridge High School, where he earned honors in football including: two-time All-State selection for Pea Ridge High School in Arkansas, named Northwest Arkansas Offensive Player of the Year, played in Arkansas All-Star Game, went 10-2 as a senior and recorded more than 4,000 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns during career.

He is majoring in Kinesiology - Sports Management at Hendrix.
