Pea Ridge Graphic-Scene

Calcutta Deck, a famous Pea Ridge horse, finished eighth out of 312 horses competing at the World's Richest Race in Ruidosa Downs, N.M.

New bleachers were being built for the visitors at the Pea Bowl. The bleachers were built by Bray's welding, NYC boys and Charles Phillips. They were expected to hold 432 people.

Mrs. Hugh Webb of Pea Ridge was named vice-chairman of Volunteer Action Center of Benton County.

Pea Ridge area writer Ruby Jean Jensen of Tucks Chapel witnessed her second book reach the public. Another supernatural mystery, it was titled "Seventh All Hallows' Eve." This marked the second book of the year off the press for Mrs. Jensen.

Pea Ridge Country Times

A new play apparatus was installed at Pea Ridge City Park. A simulated helicopter erected in memory of Randall Rogers was installed by Billy Dryden, Jay Hale and Negel Hall.

Jim Roe, Pea Ridge's basketball coach for the previous 10 years, submitted his resignation to school superintendent Dr. James Carlton. He reported that he had an offer to become basketball coach and athletic director at Southwest High, Washburn, Mo. During his 10 years at Pea Ridge, Roe compiled a record of 234 wins and 190 losses. His teams won two district championships and six different runner-up trophies.

Tony Bone, Pea Ridge, was named outstanding linebacker at Arkansas Tech University's summer football and trainers camp.

Pea Ridge National Military Park hired the first female maintenance employee, Sheri Nodine of Mayfield. The Pineville native, daughter of Anna Jordan and the late Jack Nodine, graduated from Springdale High School in 1978.

Perry Talburt of Pea Ridge and his grandsons Josh Talburt, 9, and Trent Talburt, 5, displayed his 1962 Chevrolet Impala that won first place in the muscle car class at the car show at the Benton County Fairgrounds.

Bill Evans was the only person to file for a seat on the Pea Ridge School Board. The only seat available in election was the one being vacated by Jackie Crabtree, who chose not to seek re-election.

Jay Hale, after 30 years, sold his business, Hale Engineering, to Brian Grindstaff. Grindstaff renamed the business Machine Concepts.

The Pea Ridge Blackhawk football team moved up in classification from class AA to class AAA. They were scheduled to play Gentry, Gravette, Shiloh Christian, Prairie Grove, Berryville, Lincoln and Green Forest. The football team had 25 players showing up for practice every morning including Ryan Barnett, Jack Couch and Jesse Graham.

Mark Davis, Lonnie D. Barnett, Kevin Hall and John Gibson all filed for Position 4 on the Pea Ridge School Board.
