School involves community

Dear Pea Ridge Community:

It is my privilege to work with Dr. Roland Smith to assist your School Board in finding the next superintendent. One of the most critical elements of a superintendent search is finding the right person for the school district. The right individual must have impeccable credentials as an educational leader, but even more important they must “fit” the needs of the school district and the community. The new superintendent must have the professional skills needed by the school district and they must also possess the personal qualities that will make them and integral part of the community.

As a consultant, I want your feedback on the type of person that the Pea Ridge School District needs. Dr.

Roland Smith and I will be holding a public forum to gain your input on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, in the High School Media Center at 5:30 p.m. I recognize that 5:30 p.m. is an unusual time to hold a meeting, but I have found attendance is higher when people can conveniently drop-in on their way home rather than try and come back late in the evening. At the meeting I will ask you to address two questions. What are the qualities, personal and professional, that you think the new superintendent should possess? What do you feel are the biggest challenges the new superintendent will face? The feedback I receive from you will allow me to work with Dr. Smith and develop a profile that will be presented to the schoolboard to insure we find the best person for Pea Ridge.

I look forward to meeting with you.

Sincerely, PAUL M. HEWITT, ED.D.

Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership Co-Advisor to the Board Fayetteville, Ark.

Thank you to parents

To the editor:

The staff at the Primary School thank all the parents and students who participated and supported our book fair and coin drive. The coin drive alone raised almost $1,000 that was spent by teachers to put books into their classrooms. Mr. Keith Martin, principal, rewarded the students for the hard work in the coin drive and dressed up as an alien for the day.

Thank you, REBECCA ALLEN Primary School media specialist Pea Ridge, Ark.
